Google turned up three hits on the part number.
www.audioasylum.com/cgi/t.mpl?f=bottlehead&m=24175 says it was in a box
called a "Universal Precision Track Selector" likely an aircraft
navigation device.
www.lintechcomponents.com/product/007389448/674067300/13499 says its a
30 Hz audio transformer in a rather cryptic description. That would be
part of something using aircraft Omni beacons modulated at 30 Hz, I think.
Googling "Universal Precision Track Selector" says it could have been a
497V-3 and that the Library of Congress Copyright Office has a manual.
www.aeroexpress.com/products/manufacturer-list/product/182-Collins-479V-3-Universal-Precision-Track-Selector.html
says that is a test box used to calibrate aircraft navigation receivers.
www.rockwellcollins.com/Services_and_Support/~/media/311F5D7B1A65436D8D4EE004F522E427.ashx
shows manuals available in 2012, not at ham prices though.
