[Collins] 75S-3B Slug Rack

Hello-
    I am preparing to repair a 75S-3B slug rack assembly. I thought I would ask, 
ahead of doing this work, if someone had the time to give me a little advice. 
Here is the problem: The shaft of Preselector evidently has been struck and 
driven into the assembly, the knob will not slide onto the shaft far enough to 
stay afixed. There is only about 1/4" of the shaft protruding past the plastic 
indicator piece that rides nearest front panel.
    Years ago I believe I had apart one of the rack assemblies but at this 
time but cannot recall the parts / assembly. I hope the slug rack assembly is 
not permanently damaged.
