[Collins] KWM-2A / KWM2-A Question

I believe that most of the escutcheons were cast without marking and
were engraved and filled. That way the order numbers for the custom
moldings could be significantly larger. Where they were engraved and
filled, I don't know, probably sometimes at Collins and sometimes at
contractors. Properly by Collins rules, the dash should be before the
number. Dash after the number is a mistake, easily accomplished when
each was engraved with a pantograph engraver in some small shop and that
contractor didn't look at the specification closely and wasn't
intimately familiar with the standard.
That's not to preclude there having been some replacement escutcheons
fabricated after market with the same neglect. Or the mistake having
been noticed and the faulty escutcheons sold at Collins Surplus instead
of being destroyed where they got to wholesale and retail buyers of
Collins parts like W0MLI and Surplus Sales of Nebraska. I know I saw
transistors at W0MLI's barn that had been through receiving inspection
and destructive tests where leads were burned off and cases were
corroded from salt water tests from those receiving tests. Transistors
after those destructive tests weren't always bargain parts except maybe
for the gold plate, they often had been destroyed.
