[Collins] 51j-4 Product detector

I just opened a 51J-4 to install the TreeTops product detector and found
that what appears to be a factory installed product detector.  There is a
stamped legend "MOD 6BE6" next to the BFO tube V114.  The original BFO tube
was a 6BA6.  It is wired as a product detector.  Also, the serial number is
5001D.  I have not seen a letter in the serial number before.  I know there
were some published product detector modifications that used a 6BE6 in the
BFO tube position but not as a factory modification.

 

Anyone have additional information?
