This is what I used when in the Air Force, in fact I still have them but I have 
to re-coat the neoprene cushion.
You can remove just about any type tube shield or vacuum tube from the 
most crowded space.
A bit pricey but effective, eBay 160361805626

Once in an emergency I made a chinese finger cuff out of a piece of RG-8 
coax shield.
To replace, a piece of plastic tube or straw over the tip in the cuff helps 
get it started.

Thanks for the idea but for my application it will not work, there is very
little room around the tube.
I removed one tube but had to break it to remove it, no good if I want to
test the tube. Hi hi
