I've been away from Collins for awhile and just re-subscribed to the list.
I recently acquired a nice KWM-2A with brake but someone cut a hole in the lid to adjust a board he put inside the radio. (About 3/4 inches round). I plan to remove the board and short of finding a new lid, plug the hole with JB weld, drill new holes and then paint the lid, or maybe the whole cabinet. (The lid with the hole is the only real problem with the cabinet). I have restored a number of old boat anchors but never have tried painting cabinets. I know there are spray paint cans available out there, but I am thinking of using my air compressor with a paint gun instead of using caned spray paint. I have never done this. I'll have to buy a spray gun to go with my air compressor.
If anyone can point out a site giving me some help on painting or give me some hints on what gun to buy, I'd appreciate it. (I'm not sure what size or type gun to purchase. Are there any published paint fomulas for doing the cabinet and ring on a S-line?
I tried the radio out with a borrowed supply and it seems to be working. I'll tweak the radio and do a little restoration to the knobs and spinner down the road a bit, and probably change out the electrolytic caps. Right now I need to plug that hole and also find a power supply and power supply cabinet for it. (It doesn't work to well without the supply)!
I think in the end this will be a very nice working and looking KWM-2A.
Hope this didn't bore too many list members. Thanks in advance for any input you could give to me
