[Collins] Another KWM 1 question

I suspect the reason one doesn't hear many of these radios on the air is
that so few
were manufactured. I think around 1250 units and of those probably most
went into
the military so who knows how few actual operating ones remain.
Secondarily, the associated accessories, power supply and speaker console
are even rarer. Addtionally, it's limited to 20 mtrs or above.
Bob Struk, KX6K, a local Collins repair guru recently resurrected my KWM1
set up and he tells me it performs surprisingly well. Kind of like a KWM2
that might need a slight touch up alignment. Of course it's not as
versatile as the KWM2 to operate and the accessories or parts are even
harder to find
so complete set ups are few and far between, let alone ones in good
condition. Maybe more will show up on the air the next sunspot cycle when
we can all get on 10 mtrs again and work the world on a wet noodle for an
antenna!
Have fun with your little piece of Collins history!
