[Collins] Need advise on diode load tube amp AC/DC

True, though in the really old days there were magnetic cartridges that
put out volts, at the cost of short record life and poor fidelity
because they were heavy and demanded a great deal of mechanical energy
input from the needle.

Most likely the 1 tube AC/DC amp was paired with a crystal cartridge and
the quality was dubious at best. Not probably as good as the amps inside
the Collins receivers. Which negates the benefit of using the diode load
to drive the amplifier.
