I told you it's weird... The plot thickens...
I'm going to yank R309 and R310, and measure them again , then will
apply some voltages from the lab supply to see maybe something is
going on with them when warm with current, then will resolder them in
place.
I'll try the cap across the 5000 ohm resistor (so it'll release when
the switch ungrounds the relay).
The only thing which was different when trying the relay with the lab
supply is that I had the relay out of the 32V2 (2 screws). And no,
there is no short from the coil to the metal when it's mounted... If
the the frame was warped in such a way that mounting it makes it
harder for the armature to pivot and unmounted there is less tension
or binding, it'd explain it. A visual inspection didn't show any
structural warping when unmounted.
