Thanks, Al,
I'll do as you suggested. If it's works, I'll put a diode across the
coil, because the residual magnetism must imply that the back EMF is
so large that it'd permanently magnetize the core the wrong direction?
And if so, the residual magnetism is still there after 10 years of not
being powered?
