Hi Mike,

Next, is the 618M-1 the same as a 618S-1/MC? If not, what is it?

>>>>618M-1-xx is a VHF AM rig.

What (if any) modules are interchangeable between the 618S-1 &
RT-311/ARC-38, the 618S-1/MC & RT-594/ARC-38S and between the two
groups? Also, does anyone know of a way to make the SSB versions
operate on LSB?

>>>> As I recall the ARC-38A version only did USB.

The same question exists between the various versions of the 618T and
the military versions thereof. Also, was there any restrictions on
the sets that wouldn?t allow them to operate in CW or data mode or was
that simply a function of the control head?

>>>>> The ARC-94/102 mil versions of the 618T would do cw or data and
probably was a function of the control head wiring to enable different
modes. In the P-3 and the Mighty Herk there was a CW key that worked!
The P-3 also used RTTY
in the data mode.

And finally, is there any way to make the 618S and 618T series
equipment able to tune between the 1 KCs divisions (like the
RT-662/GRC-106) or is that a near impossible can of worms?

>>>> I suspect no joy on the 618T without re-engineering the systhesizer
section. The 618S
used crystals, so you could rock it up on whatever frequency you want.

We had a 18S4 here at our MARS station years ago and we used it on
80/40. I seem to remember that they blower was
a screamer, or maybe that was the 618T. Took a healthy slug of 28 volts
to make it run also! Long since stripped for parts, too bad, as they
are solid radios.
