How many feet is your "few" feet of wire Jerry?

Perhaps we can try it on a few of our 51j-3's/4's.

My j-2 like to oscillate on a band or two when I hook it up to my
butternut 5 band
vertical.  But I do have a j-3 and j-4 to try.

btw: I tune mine up with a direct connection to the 50 ohm output of the
signal generator.

Is it normal for the R388/J-3 RF stage to be unstable on bands 3 and 4
when the antenna tuner is peaked or is my few few feet of wire too short
an antenna to load the stage at those frequencies? E.g. should I try to
fix it or is it not broke?
