The 6EA8 generally lasts considerably longer than the
6U8 and, for all practical purposes, is a "drop in"
replacement. The only place that I have heard there
are problems is when the 6U8 is replaced with a 6EA8
is in the tone oscillator in the KWM-2 series and
32S-1/32S-2.
I believe that the 6EA8 usually has less noise than
the 6U8. I do know that in various tube type VHF
converters (i.e. the CB-6 and CB-2 made by Ameco) that
using the 6EA8 instead of the 6U8 slightly improves
the sensitivity and reduces the background noise.

Can anyone shed some light on the reason of changing
V13 (1st RX Mixer/Xtal Osc) in the KWM2A from a 6U8A
to a 6EA8?
Does the 6EA8 have better performance lower noise etc;
and when was the change implemented. It appears that
there is no physical difference between the two tubes
or in circuit, so all I can surmise is that it is a
performance issue.
