Collins used those uncoated capacitors in the PTO tuned circuits for
temperature compensation too. They sure were specials, but in quantity
probably lower cost than standard temperature compensating capacitors
and the lack of coating kept their response to temperature changes
rapid.

The article in the 1948 Radio Handbook by Editors and Engineers shows
the turret.
