Mine was somewhat out of alignment so I went through the lengthy procedure. 
It is a bit tricky and I recall I did it about three times until I was 
satisfied.  I do have the 6 khz AM filter and so I  was able to follow the 
alignment procedure to the letter.  My passband control does not shift the 
frequency when it is rotated as far as I can tell, but it did before 
alignment.  Having it perfectly aligned sure makes the receiver a joy to 
operate.
