The black beauty capacitors in ALL Collins rigs need to be replaced to
solve many nit picking weaknesses. I prefer Orange Drops, as sold by
Mouser. The black beauty capacitors were poor when new and definitely
are poorer now. Use or the lack thereof has no effect.

Electrolytics go bad faster when not used. Some claim success at
reforming old electrolytics. My experiences have not been good and the
damage to the radio from the sprays of shredded crepe paper and foil all
saturated with the conductive electrolyte that comes from an exploding
electrolytic is a pain to clean up. Two years without power damages
electrolytics, even the best quality new ones.

So yup, you need paper and electrolytic capacitors. The can
electrolytics are not common at distributors any more.
