Folks,
The following information is from Rod Blocksome via
Lawrence KC0ODK .
----------------------------------------------------
This Wednesday, Aug. 29th at 10:00 AM a media event
will take place in the Bldg 120 parking lot.
Following that event, employees will be invited to
view the displays for the rest of the day.
We have been asked to set up the B-29 radio equipment
to illustrate the fact that Collins equipment has been
on the Air Force Tanker from the very beginning. The
first tanker was adapted from the B-29 and called the
KB-29. It carried the same radio gear.
Boeing is bringing a "van" (semi trailer ?) with
displays of the new tanker based on the 767. Next to
it will be a tent. We will be in the tent on a 6-foot
table. I'm having signs made, etc.
The icing on the cake will be if we can get the ART-13
and BC-348 operating an on the air. To this end,
Steve Jones is rounding up the necessary items to put
up a wire antenna to a nearby tree. We are working on
power sources.
What we need is some folks to volunteer to operate
from the club stations in either AM or CW or both.
Also someone at one of the club stations can get on
the Collins Collectors Reflector and keep them
appraised of the demo frequency/mode so they can work
the ART-13 as well. Since AM in the daytime may be
pretty iffy, we really need some CW ops for the demo
and at least one club station.
Here are the frequencies I propose we use (these
according to general band plan/agreements):
80m AM: 3885 kHz
80m CW: 3710 kHz
40m AM: 7290 kHz
40m CW: 7110 kHz
20m AM: 14,286 kHz
20m CW: 14,060 kHz
Our current plan is to check out operation of the
equipment in the 112 ham station Tue afternoon. Also
establish the antenna, ground, and power at the site
on Tue. afternoon. Wed. morning between 7:30 and 9:00
AM we will haul the equipment over to the site,
assemble, and hope it all still works. We have to be
finished by 9:00 AM
