The 4D32 was only used a couple places that I know of, the Viking I and
Collins 32V. It was an odd tube almost custom made to evade vacuum tube
excise taxes and has lots of glass to metal seals that are large
diameter and so there's more seal surface to leak. I'd want to purchase
only after inspection or awfully cheap so I could give them the cooking
and gas check before applying plate voltage.
I'm remembering the 5CX1500 with its extra seals and how it fails by
going gassy, but its big enough broadcasters can have it rebuilt.
Must have been a cache dug up for the prices to be falling or those who
have tried to put the Viking I on the air are quickly discovering why
there was a Viking II with TVI shielding the Viking I lacked. And that's
likely a problem with the 32V also since it came out before TV.
