Turn down the microphone gain control all the way.
Put the transceiver in SSB. Put the meter in the ALC
position.

Open the top of the cabinet. On the left hand side
right at the top there is a "shelf" with several
controls most of which do not have knobs on them (have
a "slot" for a screwdriver). The second potentiometer
from the left is the "ALC Zero".

Operate the PTT and use a screwdriver to adjust the
"ALC Zero" control until the meter just reads "0".

That is the "way" to set the ALC.

You do the same thing when adjusting the ALC when a
linear amplifier is attached. Just make sure that the
linear is operating when you use the PTT on the KWM-2.

When in SSB mode, and the transmitter enabled (PTT
engaged) what should be the reading on the meter in
the ALC position? Mine is reading about 25% of scale,
which can't be right. Is there a process for
determining if the ALC is working as designed, and if
so, how to re-zero the ALC meter ?
