I'm pretty sure the esteemed Dr. will chime in on this
one but for now, I'd check the tubes. I had a 75S1
that had a problem like what you mentioned. Turned out
the one of the elements shorted to the filament (or
something like that). A sharp rap to the tube (of
course, not breaking it) stopped the problem cold.
Other than that, if a tube swap doesn't do it, start
your troubleshooting procedures and look for the usual
suspects.
