[Collins] 74A-4 4:1 Tuning Knob

Hi Larry,

Assuming it is the original 4:1 knob, then all of them that I have here work
with my Xcelite 99-62, 6 flute Bristol blade.

If you have a different knob, such as the machined aluminum made by Mac
McCullough or the recent repro's by Dutch, I have a couple of those too on
radio's in my shop which I can check.

I agree though that even with the correct blade it takes some patient
feeling to hit that hole and get the blade in the flutes. It is always
possible that you have a combination of screws because one or both were lost
at one time, so all I can do is wish you "good luck"!

Gentlemen,

What type of set screw does the 'A4 tuning knob have? I was expecting the
standard Bristol set screw, but I can't get any conventional tool (Bristol,
Allen, or straight slotted) to index the set screw. Very difficult to
illuminate the screw through the tiny access hole, too!

TIA & 73,

Larry, K0RS
