If you own a KWM-380 you undoubtedly know that Collins offered a keypad for
direct frequency entry and access to the ten or eleven frequency memories
available in the rig. The keypad also was required to access the 100 memories in
the Kiron adapter.

Those these keypads as originally mounted in the base are very hard to come
by, Pipo Communications has had the bare keypad available as well as a small
version that will also work. The problem has been where to mount the keypad.

I recently mounted one of the smaller 16 button Pipo pads in the base of my
Turner 752 mic (which is basically the SM280 mic without the Collins emblem).
This puts the keypad right at hand and, IMHO a better solution than Collins
separate unit.

I wrote up the procedure to accomplish this, complete with drilling template
and photos, should any of you wish to duplicate it. As is my custom, I
mimiced the Collins "Service Information Letter" format, just for fun (of course,
they never included full colored photographs, hi).

If you'd like a copy of this emailed to you, just drop me a line. It is
presently in a Word .doc format (does anyone want to convert this to .pdf for
me?).
