[Collins] Collins carrying cases, CC2 and CC3

Steve, inasmuch as I was the buyer at Collins for the Samsonite products I may be able to help with your questions.  Pete is correct, the military could buy the cases with or without the logo in style at the time.  When winged stopped only round was available, the same as on the radios.  There also were military orders for no logo but my remembrance is that for a commercial sale the logo was included, just like on the radio gear.  The customer, of course, could remove the logo from the transit case and I personally know some who did just that for a myriad of reasons.

Samsonsite never did any of the logo work.  That was not their thing, and all that work was all done in Cedar Rapids or in Anamosa.  The CC2 and CC3 shell was widely used for Samsonite's commercial line, for Collins, and for other organizations.  All that was different was the inside of the shell.

We ordered principally when the military placed an order, and there could easily be several hundred on a specific order.  A few extra would be ordered at the same time for commercial sales.  I remember that I had a flag in Report X to contact Hollis Joy to see how many more to buy, and it wasn't many!  We ordered them directly from a principal in the Samsonite organization who personally moved the order through his organization very quickly.  The Collins inventory people would complain loud and clear when a large delivery was made, due to the dock being full of transit cases.

Before I left Collins in 1971 we were still buying a few cases, but because the peak of that product line had long since passed, we commenced working with an inside order person instead of the principal.  I suspect that later, when Rockwell acquired Collins, most things S-Line disappeared.
