[Collins] KWM2A

Jim, when military units were serviced in the states, maintenance was
typically done at Tobyhanna Military Depot, located in eastern
Pennsylvania, in the Pocono area - see their website at:
http://www.tobyhanna.army.mil/toby/acs/welcome.html

The service technicians would very often repaint the cabinets, even if they
needed it or not! I have had several Collins pieces, like the KWM-2 and
312B-4 cabinets that were refinished. The finish was not of the high
quality that was characteristic of Collins Radio. The shade of gray was not
a match. It appears that the technician used a spray can.

Normally, a military tag was glued to the front panel not an etching as was
done in your case. Pity.

I hope that this helps.

Hi Gang,
I have a KWM2A which I wonder if anyone can help me identify.
It looks like it has had military service or something similiar.
There is no serial number but a number was engraved (very roughly) on the
front panel and on the chassis, the number is A005 . The cabinet has been
repainted including the trim ring a different colour than the original
Collins it is now dark gray ,both cabinet and trim. Wide eyebrows ,
electrically it does not have the 14mHz driver plate trimmer fitted, chassis
does not have provision(no hole) for one. The PA tubes are 6146W's.
Just curious as to what its life was.
Thanks in advance

Jim, Ei2BB
