Hello Phil
According to me the 30S1 is a disaster  ( try to do any repair on the shelf 
on the right side ) I sold mine  a very late serial no.   for $3300 in 1997 
like new .
Some people boust the screen voltage  with the resulting distortions.

The 30L1 is  so much better compared to a 30L1  that you can have in front 
of you , never heard any kind of distortions out of a 30L1 ( grounded 
grids ) and a good 800  watts on 80 meter , 600-700 on 20 .
I'm using 4  572'B's  since 1996  ( the 572 B's  with heavy duty plate ,made 
of "GRAPHITE " ( the output is the same ...since the plate voltage is the 
same ) .
I did design an upgraded  voltage doubler power supply very well known  all 
over the world , all the way to South Korea  .It is capable of  800 watts on 
80 meter .
