A synthesised crystal bank replacement was described in 'Ham Radio' 
somewhere in the late 70s or early 80s. I have one stored in the attic 
somewhere with, I hope, the original article. The main problem I had was 
obtaining the wide range varactor diodes that this particular design needed.
