>From a few years back there are a couple techniques for opening
capacitor cans.
One is to pry the last crimp open at the bottom. That's messy and hard to
close neatly again.
Neater but harder is to gently chuck the can in a metal lathe and cut the
can with a thin cutoff tool just above the shoulder of the base. Rework the
guts and then use epoxy to reassemble the can. Its easy to smash the can
with the lathe chuck.
