[Collins] Parts for 30L-1 - 30S-1 - KWS-1 - S-line

Hello to the list.   Here is  your chance to get some hard to find parts
for the Collins 30L-1, 30S-1,  & KWS-1 gear.
(revised August 31, 2005) supersedes all others.

Item #1. Replace those old tired, burnt out,  out of tolerance grid
resistors with four (4) brand new 47-ohm 1 watt Allen Bradley carbon
composition grid resistors.  Shown on the 30L-1 schematic as R21, R22,
R23, R24.   You should have these as spares in case you develop a grid to
plate short in one or more of your 811A's. These are the ones that
vaporize.  Price is $5.00 for four (4) plus $1.50 FIRST CLASS - USA
shipping.

Item #2.  Replace those old tired, burnt out, out of tolerance parasitic
suppressors in your Collins 30L-1 with two (2) new homemade parasitic
suppressors. Same construction as Collins original suppressors using
(2) new Allen Bradley 100 or 120 ohm 2  watt carbon composition
resistors   These are shown as Z1 and Z2 on the 30L-1 schematic. $6.00
for the pair plus $1.50 shipping. 

Item #3. 1 each  47 ohm 2 watt carbon composition resistor shown as R9 on
the Collins 30L-1 schematic.  Collins changed the value of this resistor
from 82 ohms to 47 ohms in instruction book 523-0122-00 4th edition.
This is the exact replacement. $3.50 ppd.

Item #4.  1 each 10K ohm 2 watt carbon composition resistor shown as R15,
and 1 each 10uf at 150vdc capacitor shown as C10  the Collins 30L-1
schematic. 
When you replace R15 change C10 at the same time. Exact replacement.

Item #5. 2  each 10 ohm 2 watt carbon composition resistor shown as R17
and R18 on the Collins 30L-1 schematic. Resistors open up or change value
due to short on B+ line. $5.95 ppd. 

Item #6 1 each  Dale 1 ohm 1% 5 watt wirewound resistor shown as R8 on
the Collins 30L-1 schematic and located on bottom of  B+ resistor string.
Acts as  meter shunt.  $4.50 ppd.

SPECIAL - Kit of  items #1 thru #6.  Includes a list  showing locations

Item #7.  Replace your old style tube sockets in the Collins 516F-2 AC
power supply with heavy duty  genuine ceramic sockets.  These are not the
inferior  Chinese replacements but genuine 8-pin USA  sockets for the 5U4
and 5R4 tubes made by Amphenol or Cinch and which have  their name
imprinted  in the ceramic.  Has the mounting ears for replacement with
bolts and nuts or can be mounted in a hole and secured with  the mounting
ring.  Diameter: 1.130in/28.7mm wheras the hole in the 516F-2 is 1.0
inch/25.4mm Will require enlarging the chassis mounting  hole 4mm  and
drilling new
holes for the screws for the mounting ears.  CCA "The Signal" issue

Item #8.  New Military grade UTC audio output transformer.  Part
#UTC-F-7101.   Specs - 600 ohm  primary and 8 ohm secondary.  2 watt.
Frequency response 250-5000hz.  Round potted metal case  1-1/2 inches
high and 1 1/4 inches diameter (same diameter as a flashlight "D" cell).
Has a diagram and connection pinout on the case.  Useful to add a
speaker to your Collins 51S-1 or other receivers that have a  600 ohm

Item #9.  Replacement fuse kit for  Collins 30S-1 or 30L-1.
30L-1  F1 & F2 8A ABC or AGC  fuses.  $2.50 including shipping.
30S-1 F201 AGC 3.2A - F202  12A ABC or AGC - F203 12A ABC or AGC-
F204 8A ABC or AGC-  F205 1A ABC or AGC.  $4.00  plus
$1.50 shipping.  Order a kit now and tape it to the back of your 30L-1 or
30S-1  so you will have the exact replacement when the time comes. Each
fuse kit is in its own plastic bag.  No replacement on blown fuses.  Each

Item #10.  Replacement fuse kit for the Collins KWS-1.

the back of your KWS-1 when the time comes.  No replacement  on blown

Item #11. Feed thru ceramicon capacitor for the Collins 30L-1.  Shown as
C35 thru
C59 on the schematic.  These are 1500uuf  instead of 1000uuf  but well
within the tolerance ratings of the originals. The originals were rated
at 1000uuf (plus 100% to minus 20%) . Rated at 500vdc, flash tested at
1000vdc. Mounts in the same holes as the originals. These are made by
ERIE and are hermetically sealed.   They are NOS in original sealed
weatherproof packages.  These are style 327 that have a hook on each end
which  are designed for tie points for several connections which can be
bent to suit your particular needs.  Note:  Does not include the nut and
washer.  Use the ones from the old feed thru.  $4.95 each. $1.50

Item #12.  11-pin female AC power cord for the Collins 75S-line receivers
.  
Connector has black metal shell with cable clamp.  Good condition with 
6 foot cord.  $19.95 plus $2.50  shipping.

Item #13.  Hard to find  4-megohm 1% 2-watt 2KV resistor R11 for the
Collins 30L-1.  Replace it with a  4-megohm 3-watt  1% 30KV resistor
rated at 200  degrees C (392 degrees F) axial leads. When your R11
resistor fails you will no  longer be able use the 30L-1,  so a spare or
two would 
come in handy. Over  a long period of time the original R11 changes value
which in turn
changes the reading  in the plate metering circuit. The original R11 was
rated at 2KV 
at 2-watts.  The ones  I am offering are rated at 30KV at 3-watts.  This
resistor has a 
voltage rating which is  several times higher than the original and the
wattage
rating is 50% higher than the  original. Length 2-inches long, 1/4 inch
in diameter
with 1 1/2 inch leads on each  end. $17.50 each plus $1.50 shipping .

Item #14. NEW  Bussman HVB-1 high voltage fuse for the Collins KWS-1.
1A 2500V.  It is  4.5 inches long and .41 inches in diameter.  NO
replacement on blown  fuses. Each fuse checked before shipment,  $17.50

Item #15.  Five (5) dial lamps for the Collins R390 R390A etc receivers.
6V 200ma.  Midget flanged base.  Average life 1000 hours.  $4.20 plus
$1.50 shipping.

Item #16.  Homebrew compact solid state 3-minute time delay for the
Collins 30S-1 transmitter.  It is a direct replacement for the Amperite
(115NO180) 180  second time delay ballast tube shown on the 30S-1
schematic as K202.  No  changes  required, no holes to drill.  Just plug
it in
and ready to go.  If you want a  visual indication of when the 30S-1 is
ready to transmit
it is a simple matter  to cut one wire and solder two connections to
accomplish this
feature. If you decide  to sell the 30S-1 later just  reconnect the cut
wire.

Item #17.  Microphone male connector for the Collins KWS-1, Heath, B&W
and others. Amphenol part number series 80-MC2M.  Specs. 2-contact with
cable spring on one end  and a screw type ring on the mating end to make
a secure positive  connection.  $10.95 plus $1.50 shipping.

Item #18.  Five (5) #755 pilot lamps which is a replacement for the #47
in S-line and  other equipment.  Compare specs:
#755 - 20,000 hours average life.  6.3V @ 150ma - candle power M.S.C.P. -

#47-  3,000 hours average life   6.3V @ 150ma - candle power M.S.C.P. -

 Because  the #755 is not as bright as the #47 it lasts longer, and
produces less  heat.  Use a #755 in place of a #47.  The specs tell the

Item #19.  Solid state replacement for the 866A's, 3B28's  used in the
Collins KWS-1  (and others).  Various manufactures Sarkes Tarzian  part
#S-5130, International Rectifier  (IR) part  #1N2637 (ST-7A). Dimensions:

Item #20.  Replace those old tired out hash producing 866A's with  3B28's
which  are hash free,  more efficient, runs cooler, and lasts longer. No
waiting for the  tube to ionize like the 866's because it uses Xenon gas
