[Collins] Best receiver?

The problem with the S-Line is that the AM filter is a
bit too narrow for shortwave broadcast. I have a
couple of shortwave bands in my 75S-3A and the i.f.
can AM filter is still a bit narrow for good AM
reception. When I went to a mechanical filter it got
even worse.

I also have a 51J2 (as well as 75A2, 75A3, and 75A4).
For AM the 51J2 and the 75A2 sound the best. The 75A4
has an 8 KHz AM filter which is fine for amateur AM
work but is still a bit narrow for shortwave
listening. However, only the 51J2 is "general
coverage".

Also, for casual use the S-Line is a real "pain" to
use since you have to constantly plug and unplug
crystals. When compared to the 51S1 I agree that the
S-Line would be better except for the crystal
changing.

My boss who had his finger in many designs suggested
S-line and crystal pack, was better than 51S1.
