[Collins] R-388

This is kind of like the chicken or egg concept. Which came first, the
388 or the 51J-3. Manuals available for the 388, but if the 51J-3 was
first, what happened to make the name change to the R-388? Was it a mod
or just nomenclature change because of a different user. And why are
there no manuals for the 51J-3? Collins who evidently produced the
R-388, so my manual states anyway didn't seem to acknowledge the 51J-3
name or at least address it in their manual yet everyone says the R-388
is the same as the 51J-3.

Again the question, which designation came first and what caused the
secondary name. When was the 51J-3 designation applied or was it off
the boards that way? Was the 388 supposed to be more of a SWL/ham
receiver upgrade from the 75A series and the military just slapped the
51J designation on it to make it "military" or is it the other way around?

Just like to know the history of some of my gear and have or see some
paper on it.

Thanks to all who reply in advance. I know there are more questions and
maybe some of mine aren't worded to well but hopefully the message will
get across.
