[Collins] KWS-1

Hi Dan,
The KWS-1 used at least 3 different HV connectors of which I am aware. One
was a SO-239 and PL-259, combo, the later ones used rugged Amphenol
connectors with blue plastic inserts and with a dark olive shell and others
used a much less rugged connector that was had a tan colored hex shaped
body. Both the early and late connectors are still available but I have not
seen the hex shaped ones in years.
So, it really doesn't matter which one is broken, changing them requires a
bit of work and how big a deal is subjective. You have to remove the bottom
cover, the top and back cover, as well as loosen the small bottom cover on
the rear to gain access to the mounting box which is located behind the
small bottom cover. In my case, I was able to remove the box, pull it out
enough to unsolder the connection from the HV connector to the HV feed
through bypass cap freeing the box and then I could replace the connector.
I would replace the connector with the latest version which might require
drilling 4 holes in the HV connector mounting box, mounting the new
connector and then reversing the disassembly process. Of course you would
also need to change the connector on the power supply to match. The HV cable
used is RG-58 which was surprising to me but it works just fine.
I hope this helps and others share their experiences too.
