Ean:
You won't be able to operate "top band" using the KWM-2/30L1 combo. However, a slight conversion has been done by Hal Guertzky. It is an Electric Radio article writtne fairly recently. Also, if you need to get the 30L1 to operate top band, you may have to revert to doing slight modifications like adding on extra inductance to the tank coil, padding the plate and load caps, and finally setting up a new tuned input circuit for 160 meters. FWIW. Cal, N6KYR.

I see that Surplus Sales of Nebraska has crystals in the $ 4 to $8
price range that should fit the bill.

Now I have a question (two actually), either for you or anybody
else in the forum:

1. I run two KMW-2A's at home (Cape Town) - These were
not originally designed for operation below 3 MHz.

How sucsessful do they operate on 160 metres?

I am thinking Power output and Rx sensitivity.

2. I assume trying to tune my 30L-1 to 160 would be a no-no?

73,
     Ean (Pointe Noire)
