I realize these are notorious and fail and I've replaced many. But, I
have a question. If (and I don't know this for sure) the failures are
caused by moisture intrusion, like composition resistors changing value,
would a unit which has been sprayed with that anti moisture/fungus "goop"
be less prone to 50 year old capacitor failure and having the composition
resistors change value ?
The reason I ask is that I came across an old military Hammarlund SP-600,
brought it up on a variac, it's been cooking for about a week, works
great, can't tell any BBs are physically split (and it's full of them),
haven't tested any for leakage, haven't tested any high value resistors
for 'higher" values. The only thing about this receiver is that it
received a GOOD dunking of that military "goop" a long time ago and it
looks untouched except for a number of dead spiders and webs.
