The easiest way to tell if your particular S-Line
transmitter (and KWM-2 series) has the neutralization
circuitry that allows the 6146B (6146B / 8298A / 6146W
made after 1964) is to look at the neutralization
capacitor itself. If the capacitor is a ceramic
trimmer, then this is the "old" circuit and under no
circumstances should the 6146B series be used. In
well over 9 out of 10 cases the neutralization
circuitry will "burn up".

If the neutralization capacitor is an air variable,
then either the modification kit has been added to the
unit or else it was manufactured after the need for
the circuit change was noted.

For more information on the 6146 family of tubes, go
to either website that is listed at the end of this
message. The article that was published in Electric
Radio (and has been reprinted by several other
publications since) a couple of years ago appears on
both websites. The articles are the same on both
websites but the other information is different.

There was a change to the neutralization circuit to
make it work with the later 6146B tubes.
