Those particular 6146 tubes were part of a procurment
by the United States military that were supposed to be
spares for the Collins S-Lines, KWM-2 series, Eldico
series, etc. They were delivered and the contract
"signed off" and the bill was paid.
Then, several years later, somone tried using them in
an r.f. circuit! Some of them got up to 80 meters at
a much reduced power output. However, most of them
completely failed to work on HF!
But, since the bill was paid (the the company
basically out of business), the military was "stuck"
with thousands of tubes that were not worth a "flip"
when used at r.f.
For more information on the 6146 family of tubes, the
article that was published in Electric Radio and
republished by several organizations is available on
both websites that are listed at the end of this
message.

Do you have RF rated 6146? I've run into some from the
Electronic Tube Company as military parts that
wouldn't work at all at RF.
