All:
Just wanted to say "thanks" for the source of info with regards to the 51S1 power cord situation.

Since I last posted, I was able to scare up a used but good 9 pin socket from my "junque boxx." Only six contacts were available (and not all in the "correct" areas") so I had to do some desoldering and switching around. After reading the info from KK5IM's diagram (and checking my work), I have a new cord for a "junker" 51S1 that I'm restoring.

The owner was straight forward when he told me it would be in somewhat shabby condition. I bought it from someone in Germany and did note the original spinner knob, rejection knob, and dial lock weren't included. Closer inspection showed that the band change knob also wasn't stock. It was machined out of plastic to appear original and I dare say it looked quite o.k (except for the cheesy aluminum paper used for the insert). I'll probably retain the knob for conversation but I'll eventually (hopefully) find an original.

The unit was otherwise fairly complete. To replace the spinner, I ordered one up from advanced-optics. Looks o.k. in my book. However, the main tune shaft doesn't work. I have to use a screwdriver to turn the PTO. Closer inspection showed that the inside gear wasn't making contact with the dial shaft. I'll have to remove the front panel to gain access to the gear and cinch that down.

Other than that, it appears a large segment of band doesn't work on the S-1: anything past the 1.0-1.9 range to the 6.0-6.9 Mcs range is dead, zero, zilch, nada, no way, nihil, kaput, tango-uniform.

Cabinet is trashed but that's the least of my problems. That, I'll deal with some other time.

O.k. That's it. I'll keep you all apprised of my situation. Cal. N6KYR
