Greetings to all. Due to my 'good neighbors' suing me because I have 2 towers
(in a NON-restricted area), and my dear Wife's recent battle with Malignant
Melanoma, I have decided to part with some of my Collins collection. We will be
moving to a "more affluent" neighborhood (less populated with rectal
openings) and I really do not need 7 operating positions....
First up, will be my beloved 75A-4. This radio was made during the first
month of production. The appearance is a 10, inside and out. It is currently
serving in one of my CW positions. Although I have all documentation to 'mod' the
radio to death, only selected 'CMS and Electric Radio mods have been done. No
sense trying to make the old girl into something she's not......
Here's what HAS been done:
- completely cleaned and polished inside
- replacement of every "Black Beauty" and any Micas that tested as leaky
- carefully aligned
- PTO end points set
- 5 filters, mint also
- 4:1 mechanism (was on it when purchased)
- new drum decal (old one turned off on a lathe, new one is perfect)
- tube shields polished outside and painted flat black inside
- solid state rectifier and dropping resistor (easily put back to stock, if
desired)
- Above rectifier is installed in a polished "Collins" can
- B+ removed from the filters
- all new P/S filter caps inside the original can
This radio comes with the matching 270G speaker from Mort Jones. Note:
although Art and Mort made their products 40+ years apart, I defy anyone to tell the
slightest color or texture difference between the radio and speaker. Great
job, Mort!! Mort's speaker enclosures have a huge speaker inside, that sound
excellent!
I have even made a black Delrin insert for the finger hole on the top cover.
Snaps in and out. I have seen many 75A-4, and even the 'newest' ones cannot
come close to this baby.
IF you might be interested, send me an e-mail. I will send photos of the
radio, inside and out. If you like what you see, respond with an offer. I will
sell this to the bidder of my choosing. I would prefer NOT to ship this combo. I
will gladly deliver anywhere in the Southeast, free of charge.
Although old, this radio just amazes me every time I use it. It is paired
with a Vectronics 40 Meter CW (QRP) transmitter (I know, strange combo) and it's
a blast.
By the way, any medical students out there that are interested in Proctology,
come to Northern Fl. Lots of "patients" here!!!! ha ha
