That is normal for the 51S-1. The 200 -2000 khz input to the receiver
has only=20
A very broad band pass filter. When tuning the receiver over that band
you are only
tuning the VFO and the variable IF, NOT the front end. The 55G-1 takes
care of this problem very nicely.

    I just got a 51S-1 serial 900's. It seems to work perfect but with a
long wire the broadcast band picks up all kinds of images! I am in the
middle of Chicago's many high rf area but none of my other boat anchors
have this trouble. Is this way they made a LF preselector for it?  Dan
