I wonder if the ceramic element will be readily available once the crystal
element stock is depleted?

The preferred  element is  the ceramic element rather than the crystal
element because the latter is suceptible to moisture, etc. and goes bad in
time.  Many of those shiny D-104's that we see at hamfests are no doubt
defective mikes because the crystal element has gone bad.
