Dutch. I had a similar problem with my 30S1 and found that in addition to a
bad power transformer that the relay had carbonized tracks which did not
show up on an ohm meter but which arced when the 220 volt line input was
applied . I replaced the relay with a large contactor and the problem was
solved. Jim/W1DU

Hello to the List,

I am still looking for the 455.8-Kc crystal that gives you the 800 cps
offset when used with the F455Q-5 filter.

Any help out of your crystal box?

Thanks es 73,

Larry, K4CL

Did you try the regular crystal manufacturers? I believe I obtained my
455.8 crystal from International Crystal, but that was several years ago.
The crystal is a worthwhile addition to the receiver.

Dutch,

The sparking? Does it occur in the SSB, CW, or both switch positions? If it
occurs only in SSB mode [higher voltage], open the PS door. Shut off the
room lights and defeat the door interlock. Don't stick your head in, but you
should see where the arc is located.

In my unit, it was the door interlock's crow-bar disk arcing across its
floating insulator when in SSB mode, only. Noticeable only with the lights
out.

Yes, I do but for a more definitive answer why not contact Miltronics in
Toledo. He is the undisputed authority on the R390A.

Have about twenty or so R-390 & R-390A sets mostly complete plus another
twenty or so good for salvage. Additionally have many PTO, IF, AF decks.
Asking
$2900 OBO for the lot.

I do believe the device was made by Ron Hankins, KK4 something or other. Try
the ER store or look on the web. Cal, N6KYR.

Subject: [Collins] Wanted 312A-1 help and parts

Hi gang, hopefully someone can help me in restoring a 312A-1 that has been
pretty well stripped out. Looking for a complete lamp assembly with hood,
repro parts o.k. and switch. Could use a wiring diagram to build a new
wiring harness. If anyone has a 312A1 that can send close up photos of the
two original fuse holders, that would be a great help. Ok, lets do it this
way.....basically what I have is a cabinet, with emblem, front panel and
rear terminal strip.. that's it.. no light assembly/switch, harness, fuse
holders, terminal strip cover, nada! anyone have any 1950's vintage wiring
that I could use to re-create the wiring harnesses? the wire appears to be
older cloth covered wire.... heck even the speaker is not original but they
should be available as I saw 4 on Epay yesterday.... help greatly
appreciated as this is the last part of my KWS-1/75A4 GDT's.. it would be
easier to find an honest politician here in Wash DC than a nice 312A1...
yeah... I know..... good luck kid....
73's and thanks

Tom:
I just restored my speaker and will be glad to share some info and possibly
some parts. I'm on my way out to do an errand but will write a longer post
to you when I get back. I'll write privately unless someone wants to see
what I write, they can let me know.

Subject: [Collins] 30S-1 problem.

I have had a bunch of great ideas as to where to check for my problem, to
start with the tube is a 12AL5, when I replaced the 6AL5 with the 12AL5 it
lit up just like it was suppose to??? It is in the ALC circuit and I doubt
it had anything to do with my problem anyway. I removed the 4CX1000 and the
problem persist, when looking inside for the arching in the dark it looks to
be coming from the relay behind the time delay relay so I will clean the
contacts tomorrow and see what happens there, I have been all over this
beast with a megger and a Simpson 360 but still see no reason for the
problem and now have the correct print (Thanks Larry) and can do some
serious poking around. I will post the cure as soon as I find it, thanks to
the bunch of replies and all the suggestions, what a great source of info...
