I advocate using a less costly and more reliable relay. The P&B KHP17D11
style of clapper relay. Its not subject to handling damage like the
original short form telephone type. So its not nearly so expensive.
There is a NTE replacement for under $20. And the various variations are
stock items. Look for the four pole relay that can be mounted to a
socket. The clapper relay will make a little louder mechanical click
when it closes. Having proper wiping contacts not subject to damage from
needing to bend the terminals to solder is a big reason for much greater
longevity. The 110 VDC coil works fine in the 32S. I've posted part
numbers previously.
Yes, the clapper type of relay is not original. But Collins did use that
family of relays in other projects, I know I did design them in while I
was there. The short form telephone relay gave problems in warehousing
and manufacture and required skilled care to make it work after
assembly. Not a great choice of relay.
