There is a picture in the pictorial history of Collins amateur equipment
that shows a KWM2-A escutcheon. The picture title says it wasn't common.

As far as I know there was no insert in the escutcheon, but that it was
molded as one piece, probably early without nomenclature engraving so
that engraving was done on the production line. Later the mold probably
was made specific to each radio with the nomenclature molded.

With production line engraving, it could easily have been that someone
KNEW too much to bother looking at the manual or the specifications and
put the dash in the wrong place while assembling the engraving stencils.

I know of nothing to hint that the variation on nomenclature affected
any circuits. Since serial numbers were issued in random orders, only
original part date stamps or MCN can identify the age of each and the
precise variations in circuitry.
