All:
I just want to "crow" about my newest acquistion (and thanks to Dave Knepper and the Collins Radio Association): the Advanced Optics 312-B3 speaker. I just received it yesterday. It is currently serving as my station speaker for a temporary 75S3B/Ranger II setup. The fit and finish on this product is as nice as anything the Cedar Rapids/Dallas group could ever produce. Curious is the new 4 ohm speaker used on the current repro. Gone is that oval shaped unit now discontinued. In it's place is a 3" round heavy magnet unit. You may think it is short on audio. It is not. It is loud and the audio is full. Stations I tune into for the 3870 Mcs AM West Coast group sounds clear, crisp, and well defined...something you should expect from a well tuned AM station (on the receive or transmit side). My hats off to Advanced Optics and the CRA for providing a product. It is everything my old 312B3 could be and more.
Finally, I have a problem here: I know that one can sub a 4 ohm speaker where the speaker requirements are 2.5, 8, or 16 ohms without any deleterious effect. Am I correct in this? Common sense tells me "yes" but something at the back of my mind says there are other opinions. Either way, let me know. Thanks.
