One thing that is obvious is that by 1967 when Collins
furnished my particular QSLs, is that the quality of
the card stock and the printing was no where near as
good as the cards produced before. Basically, the
card is printed on bristol board with no finish other
than the normal surface. There is no "glossy" finish,
etc. I don't know if it is "bleed through" or the
fact that the ink wasn't dry when the cards were
stacked, but the call and the address both can be read
on the back side. This shows up in the scans on both
the website and that I am sending out to those who
have requested them.
I do know that the ones that I have are for the house
that my wife and I rented for 6 months when we first
came to Richardson (right out of Georgia Tech) and
that I didn't bother to have any more printed when we
bought our first house in Richardson. Frankly, I
didn't like the design! I don't think that I ever
sent out many of these since I still have a pretty
good stack of them.
I never sent out any of the CQ cards since I was using
the WA5STI call from Texas and thus have a VERY large
stack of them. Cowan Publishing just sent me 1000 of
them within a week, or two, of me becoming the first
FM Editor of CQ Magazine. However, the quality of the
CQ cards is much better than that of the Collins Radio
cards.
Anyway, the card design is very simple and should be
easy for anyone to copy.
