Lyle,
I have a 920 and it has a switch on back for internal relay switching and
solid state switching. I set mine to relay switching and hooked it up
directly to my Drake L-7. Works fine, no external relay needed.
Just make sure you have the switch set right, it's small and a little hard
to see in back.

Can anyone help Lyle when he uses a 30L-1 with a FT-920 transceiver. Thanks
Lyle: Look at your manual on the 920 and try to find where it mentions an
external jack on the 920 being used to switch an external relay to be used
when switching an amplifier relay circuit. I would suspect that there is a
12 volt switching line that can be used with an external relay, 12 volt
relay. Incidentally, Yaesu sold such a relay box that plugged into a 12
volt plug on their equipment. The relays in many of these solid-state
transceivers are too light to switch a Collins 30L-1.
I am going to place your need on the QTH.NET Collins mail list and hope that
someone knows how to hook up the TS-920 to the 30L-1.
