Vern,
The 310c might work as is, on your 160m xmtr with vfo input. The first xmtr
stage would need a tuned plate ckt for 160m. A tuned plate buffer/multiplier
stage will also divide by 2 or more. I.E. 3.6 MHz in, 1.8 MHz out.
Give it a try. The 310C VFO has plenty of output (6ag7).

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the return...
This agrees with the little bit of info that I found in the Collins list
archives. The addition of a 6AK6 as an untuned class A buffer amp (I'm
repeating what was written by others...) to boost the output of the PTO
(1.6 to 2.0 Mhz) so that it can drive a transmitter oscillator... The
info I have suggests that the output can be fed directly to the
transmitter xtal socket. This configuration was said to have appeared
in a 1949 Collins sales brochure showing a 70E-8A PTO, etc... I'm hoping
someone will have one laying about in their collection that also won't
mind sharing a digitized copy, since others have also expressed interest
in this mod...
