[Collins] Yes, there is a Santa Claus

I had one of the feet on the 24 volt pass transistor lift on an old KWM-380 I had. That was the only thing that ever failed! I now have an HF-380 that I hook up to a 30S-1. The ALC is incompatible, but a $2.79 Radio Shack 1 meg pot across the ALC line allows adjustment of the voltage fed back to the radio. Works just fine..... Happy Holidays to all.....

Today, Santa came early to the Collins Radio Center. He left me with a
repaired KWM-380!

I found a shorted 4.7 mfd/35 volt capacitor from the 24 volt lead to ground.
This a filtering capacitor tied to the 24 input from the 24 volt power
module.

I'll give you the part number in the next several days but the clue was that
I had little or no voltage on TP1,2,3 on the synthesizer board. My 24 volts
was going to gound through this shorted cap.

Now don't ever tell me that these electrolytics go bad. Dr. Johnson is
right.

So I saved considerable money by doing it myself.
However, I still have lots to learn about the KWM-380.

Happy Holidays
