The ceramic core might be a standard size. The winding is relatively
critical. It is easy to make a choke with undesired resonances within
the ham bands. Its easier when the WARC bands aren't involved. If the
ceramic couldn't take the heat, no organic adhesive will. Nothing short
of ceramic is as tough.
Most signal generators are less stable than the A4, its crystal
calibrator and S-meter can probably substitute quite effectively with
far better frequency stability.
