David,
Here is some info on pulleys and dial stringing from Tony.
Does anyone on the list know of a Bristol wrench (and source) in a
straight configuration (like a screwdriver) rather than the "L" shape
that will do the job of getting to the setscrews behind the kilocycle
dial? Is there a another method of loosening those setscrews?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris-

I did a lot of work behind the front panel tonite. Here's what I found.
I was unable to remove the kilocycle dial. I have small L-shaped Bristol
wrenches, but couldn't turn the setscrews behind the dial. I was still
able to restring it by carefully working behind it. I used the fishing
line and it worked out fine. I couldn't tie decent knots in it so I used
metal tubes cut from the inside of a small guage butt connector and
crimped them. I did one end, strung the dial, then installed the second
end to fit. I replaced the plastic pulleys with the metal ones from
Mcmaster-Carr (The pulleys are MC# 3434T21 )- they worked beautifully. I
also installed a drum overlay (from K3ICH) - it's a perfect match and
looks great. I cleaned the kc. dial and the display glass with very
dilute dishsoap and water. Cleaned the front panel with Pro409. Still to
go, I have a pilot lamp to replace (#47 bulb, Radio Shack), and I need
to use some Pro-Gold on the switches. Then I can button up the fron
panel and get into the back side for cleaning, recapping (as needed),
and alignment).
