I've done similar things myself over the decades..........  Smaller beams 
kept me from tearing up rotators, fewer radials under verticals meant less 
installation work, shorter towers were easier to climb, RG58 meant smaller 
diameter holes to drill through my brick house than RG8, etc.  And, 
amazingly, my signal still got out and I enjoyed great qso's, dx and 
domestic.
